CMS Turkish Funding • There are two major funding agencies in Turkey for the HEP scientific Research. These TAEK (equivalent of the US DOE) and TUBITAK (equivalent of the US NSF). • The current Turkish CMS funding goes thru TAEK. • The TUBITAK was the only funding agency for the CMS Turkish contribution when the Turkish Universities have joined in the CMS. (The CMS HF mechanical construction projects) • The CMS Turkish groups will work on the HGC mechanical related issues –absorbers and tooling which is the funding from TAEK.
CMS Visit to TUBITAK in April 2016 • TizianoCamporesi and Y.Onel visited TUBITAK VP Dr,OrkunHasekioglu • TUBITAK has shown interest to participate in the CMS Phase II Upgrade Projects • Dr. Hasekioglu has indicated that the CMS Turkish team with the help of HGC Engineering team can put in a proposal to TUBITAK which then could reviewed by the Science Board and could be funded. • Tiziano has recommended that EE personnel from TUBITAK should visit CERN and work on the design of the HGC related electronics projects. This design can be then carried to one (or more) TUBITAK research Institutes for manufacturing.
Today’s discussion • Y.Onel has sent info to the TUBITAK and TOBB team regarding the HGC TDR and several HGC presentations to the conferences regarding planned electronics projects. • There has been further work and developments in the HGC group since then. • It is important to learn about the detailed plans of the HGC group and get information about capabilities of TUBITAK institutions and labs that can lead to a project definitions , tasks and work packages. • The CMS Turkish group is led by ErhanGulmez and he has several faculty members are working with him from different universities in the CMS.
Key Items for the HGC readout and trigger • Need to have large dynamic range @ low power + low noise • SKIROC2_CMS: Includes some of the HGC features: ~20ns shaping time and 40MHz sampling • Data are transmitted by LpGBT: 1,2 or 4 link (3.2Mb/s) dedicated to trigger data and 1 link (5Mb/s) dedicated to full resolution data • These were in the original concept but we will hear more about the current thinking from the CERN EE team.
