Our CMS Project Steve Grange, Project Manager, Cambridgeshire County Council, UK
About Me Project Manager since 2005 18 months in current role as a Web PM Past projects at CCC: Pothole reporting web application Events management web application Corporate News application Currently on a CMS replacement project Our (small) Web team Me, Web Content Officer, Web Officer (UX and Analytics), Web Strategy Manager and a Technical Web Development Officer
Why I’m here I won an award from an organisation in the UK called SOCITM (www.SOCITM.net) “Socitm is the association for ICT and related professionals in the public and third sectors. We offer networking and peer support, professional development, and access to research and consultancy on a wide range of policy and technology issues” They provide an annual award to go anywhere in the world studying anything ICT related
Food for thought… From 2010 to October 2011 there were 8,956 page edits made to our CMS. There are 4,778 pages on our internet CMS. In the above period, the top 400 pages attracted 81.6% of page views. Of the all the edits by our content authors and editors, only 15.3% of those were for pages in the top 400. Put another way, roughly 85% of page edits from October 2010 to October 2011 were for the other 4378 pages that weren’t being viewed. Not just a new CMS needed!
Project status Project started officially in November 2011 Soft Market Testing for various suppliers has been held We’re currently in the process of writing our tender specification document Various workstream leads have been assigned to this project to help me deliver it
What’s next? Define and sign off authoring model Define content strategy Finish content audit Resolve fear of change Finish tender specification and send out
Goals Review this direction Objectives Activities Content strategy Content Rahel gave me some great ideas to go back with, one of which is:
Resolve fear of change Fear of change is going to be a big problem People don’t want to change their ways All organisations have it To mitigate risk I’ll: Get management buy-in Keep stakeholders up-to-date Keep staff up-to-date as much as possible Provide evidence for everything when liaising with staff members
