  1. The Side Airbag Out-of-Position Injury Technical Working Group 1-year Later Meeting October 25, 2001

  2. Implementation of TWG Recommended Procedures • Procedures added to side airbag, side air curtain & safety canopy internal design standards • Prior to TWG, internal design standards for SAB systems included stringent OOP requirements • Internal design standards maintaining OOP tests that differ from TWG October 25, 2001

  3. Products with SAB Systems Designed To TWG Procedures • All 2002 model year Volvo cars • 2002 model year Jaguar X-type • 2002 model year Ford Explorer & Mercury Mountaineer (4-door vehicles only) • 2003 model year Ford Expedition & Lincoln Navigator • 2002 model year Lincoln Towncar • SAB in production prior to TWG (1999 model year) and meets reference values • 2003 model year Lincoln Towncar, Ford Crown Victoria & Mercury Grand Marquis • Phase-in over next few model years October 25, 2001

  4. Properly Restrained Children in Rear Seat & Curtain/Safety Canopy • Children, 12 years old & under, should always be properly restrained in the second or third row (if equipped) of seats. Ford Motor Company’s side curtains & safety canopies will not interfere with children restrained using a properly installed child/booster seat because these SAB systems inflate downward, from the headliner above the doors, along the side window opening. • Properly restrain children in the rear seat! October 25, 2001

  5. Safety Canopy & 6YO in Booster Seat (2nd Row) October 25, 2001
