STSB Mission Statement “To actively and vigorously participate in the creation of a nurturing educational environment designed to encourage life-long learning by securing and delivering a safe, reliable transportation service for eligible public school students from home to school and back home again”

5. DOE School Bus Contracts General Facts:
School bussing services are contracted through private providers
Contract terms range from Six Years to as much as Ten Years
STSB currently manages 113 contracts with 10 different bus companies and a total of 833 school bus vehicles statewide
The cost of public school bussing services currently exceed $70 million annually.

8. Special Education Bussing All special education transportation services must be IEP-driven (included as a related service)
For aide-assisted services from home-school-home during normal school hours (aka Curb-to-Curb), teacher, SSC or Dept Head completes the eST-11 form on eCSSS.
For Extended School Year (ESY) services, teacher, SSC or Dept Head completes the ST-11b form and remits to the District Education Specialist (DES) for approval and placement. DES then forwards to the DTO.
For Mid- and Post-Day services (CBI, WS, Modified, etc.), teacher, SSC or Dept Head completes the ST-16 form and remits to DES for review and approval. DES then forwards to CAS for review and approval. CAS then forwards to DTO. (CAUTION: Please allow 3 to 4 weeks for services to begin).
9. Students Who are Homeless The McKinney-Vento Act requires the department to furnish transportation subsidy to students who are homeless.
Students whose displaced location is within the school’s attendance area are eligible for a free* bus pass.
Students whose displaced location is outside of the schools’ attendance area will be offered:
Private Car Mileage Reimbursement,
City Bus Service, or
Curb to Curb Service
If these options are not feasible, Schools will be asked to discuss enrollment alternatives with the parent or guardian
