The Education System in India The education system in India has gone through a lot of changes from the ancient times. Earlier education was all about personal development and gaining valuable knowledge, but with time it became modernized. The Gurukul system, it was much stricter towards education than the modern one. In this system it was considered essential to train the mind and the thought process of a person in order to gain knowledge. The modern system is a lot more mechanical. Structure of the modern education system in India Before independence the women of our country were not provided the right to get educated. But after achieving independence the government of India took good care to provide education to everyone without any discrimination and provide them free classes inIndia. The present system of education in India has the following structure: Primary education Education at the secondary level Senior secondary education Higher education The condition of Indian education at present: In order to compete with the modern world education stands out to be the most important factor for every individual. So the government of India started funding the education system of the country. This gave rise to a major disadvantage which is the degradation of the quality of education due to the emergence of a large number of colleges. The universities and colleges are supposed to be the center of learning and education but in the present scenario they have turned into the center for political intrigues. These institutes now provide just the qualification and free classes in India. They are not at all concerned about developing confidence, self-reliance and sense of duty among their students. Drawbacks of Indian education system: The modern education system of India has a lot of drawbacks. As politics entered the education system it triggered indiscipline, vandalism and violence among the students. Classes have all become over-crowded even at the higher level. In India the ratio of teachers to the students is very low. So the bonding of the teachers with their pupils is
very poor. The present education system is built in such a manner that the students are over-burdened with examinations. Due to this they are not able to grasp the knowledge properly. They are going towards shortcut and easy methods to achieve success.
