In The beginning • Adele was Born on May 5, 1988 • Inspirations: Spice Girls, Slipknot, Ella Fitzgerald, and Etta James • Her parents Divorced in the 90’s • She struggled through the first part of her secondary school • The struggles came mostly from her not being able to pursue her passion of music.
Continued Growth • Adele left school when told she couldn’t sing unless she played the clarinet. • She was accepted into the BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology in 2002. • In her second year at BRIT, she became neighbors with a vocalist of The Noisettes. • She decided to start writing her own music and singing them solo without a band.
2006 • Adele recorded her first three songs for a class project. • She decided to uploaded her songs to MySpace • This landed her a record label and she signed with XL Records • She then went on tour as the opening act for Jack Penate
New Beginnings • She graduated to headlining status by the end of 2007 • In 2008 she was at the top of the BBC’s new music talent list
19 • At 19 years old she released her debut album “19” in January of 2008. • Chasing pavements released on the 14th of January, reached number two on the UK charts and remained there for a total of four weeks. • Winning several awards in the UK, she decided to go on a North American tour.
An evening with Adele • Signed with Columbia records in March 2008 then began the tour in May. • She struggled with drinking and was dependent on her then boyfriend which caused her to cancel her US tour dates. • Her attempt to break into America failed.
Coming back • Proving to be a success, the next day, “19” topped the iTunes charts. Moving “Chasing Pavements into the top 25” • Disappointed in herself, she gave up drinking and attempted to reach American hearts once more. • She performed “Chasing Pavements” and “Cold Shoulder” on Saturday Night Live.
2009 • In February of 2009 when she took home two Grammy’s. For best female pop vocal performance of "Chasing Pavements“, and the best new artist trophy. • By July 2009, her album sold 2.2 million copies.
21 • “21”, Adele’s second album was released January 24th 2011 in the UK and February 22nd 2011 in the US. • The title, once again reflects the age of the artist while recording. • It became one of the longest running number one albums in history, spending over 18 weeks at the top spot.
2011 • Damaging her vocal chords, she was forced to cancel the remainder of her tour. • After a successful surgery, things began to fall back into place • She started dating Simon Konecki and took home six Grammy’s
Rolling in the Diapers • Adele announced she was having a baby with Simon and took home a baby boy named Angelo in October.
Awards season • She made her first post-baby appearance at the 2013 Golden Globe Awards, taking home the best song statuette for “Skyfall” the James Bond theme song. • She performed “Skyfall” at the Oscars as well as taking home an Oscar for Best Original Song • Also winning a Grammy that year for Best Solo Pop Performance of “Set Fire to the Rain”
Rumour Has it • Adele is rumored to be working on a new album and a tour to go with it. • Due to her history of being unable to complete a full tour, a source says she’s vowed that she will do everything to make sure it goes well.
Looking forward • Adele is considered one of the best vocal artists of our age. • There is still much more to come from her and only time will tell on where her place in history will be alongside the greats.
