Counting to 100 • All students should be able to rote count to 100 by the end of their kindergarten year to receive their point for pupil progression. • RED Folder – count the 100’s chart • Sing songs that count to 100 - youtube
Fluently add & subtract to 5 Definition of fluency in kindergarten: to master a subject or skill effortlessly and accurately.
What Math Fluency LOOKS like: Play video! * No fingers, no counters, and answers within a 3 second window
Number Writing and Teen Numbers • Dr. Jean – Numeral Song on youtube • Recognize and remind that all teen numbers begin with “1” • Eureka counting – 10:1, 10:2, 10:3, 10:4 • Mixed up teen flash cards
Coin Recognition • Kindergarten students must recognize coins and their value by the end of kindergarten for adding and subtracting success in first grade
Module 4 • Ten stacks – counting tens and ones • Counting the “Say 10” way • Equal means same on both sides • Important to teach children to attend to symbols
Composing & Decomposing • Simply addition and subtraction • Numbers bonds • Attending to part-part-whole • The two parts ALWAYS coming together • Compose – put together; adding • Decompose – break apart; subtracting
