  2. Presentation Objectives • Learn about Help Me Grow Orange County • Review developmental screening opportunity available through QRIS • Learn about key resources available in the Orange County community • Understand how to best access resources for the families you serve

  3. What is Help Me Grow? Help Me Grow is an efficient and effective system – with a proven track record – that assists families and providers in identifying at risk children, then helping families find community-based programs and services.

  4. Vision: All children in Orange County will have improved developmental outcomes by contacting Help Me Grow Mission: Help Me Grow connects young children and their families to developmental services and promotes developmental surveillance and screening.

  5. Why is Developmental Screening Important? Developmental screenings can improve our children’s health and well being by identifying children at risk for developmental problems. A screening does not diagnose a child with a disability but it may suggest the need for further evaluation. Developmental screening will:• Increase early identification of developmental & behavioral problems • Improve access to early intervention • Create a relationship between families and providers• Teach parents and caregivers about their child’s development• Promote healthy behavior and development

Developmental Screening for Family Child Care Provider in QRIS Score 5 on the Matrix with this screening! • Give parents the letter with link to ASQ Online • https://bit.ly/ASQEnglishOC (link to be placed in browser) • Parents complete screening online • HMG receives completed tool & conveys results to parents • Children scoring “at-risk” receive phone calls & referrals • Parents are sent screening summary to share with family child care providers

  10. Community and Child Health Care Provider Outreach CBOs, Physicians, Early Care & Ed. Providers, etc. refer to HMG Intake & Referral Process

  11. Why Contact Help Me Grow? Parent has concerns about their child’s development behavior or learning Parent needs help navigating the developmental services system in Orange County Child is not eligible for RCOC or school district services Child is eligible but needs additional supports or services Child is typically developing and family needs additional services and support Provider would like to provide referrals to family

  13. Help Me Grow Connects Families to Many Resources Including: • Early intervention services • Home visitation programs/ parenting education • Infant/child mental health services • Therapeutic services • Parent support groups • Early literacy programs • And many other community based services

How Can We Work Together to Improve Developmental Outcomes? • Talk with parents about their child’s development • Recommend Help Me Grow if a parent is concerned about their child’s development, behavior or learning • Contact Help Me Grow on behalf of a parent via phone or online portal • Implement access to QRIS developmental screening to identify “at risk” children • Inform us of events at your center, school or location
