  2. BACKGROUND - Prognosis of Serosa Negative GCs is good • The definition of EGC leaves some problems • unsolved • In S- GC patients prognostic factors are not • satisfactorily assessed

  3. Patients & Methods 195/465 (41.9 %) resected pts between 1986 & 2001

  4. Nodal and vascular involvement p < 0.001 p < 0.039

  5. pT 88 70 100 T1 T2 75 50 p = 0.01 25 0 0 50 100 150 Analisys time (months)

  6. Wall Invasion 100 m 75 sm mp 50 ss p = 0.028 25 0 0 50 100 150 analysis time (months)

  7. Nodal Status 88 57 100 N - N + 75 50 25 p < 0.001 0 0 50 100 150 analysis time (months)

  8. Distribution

  9. T/N Subset T1N- 100 T1N+ 75 T2N- T2N+ 50 25 p < 0.001 0 0 50 100 150 analysis time (months)

  10. Multivariate analysis Overall (n = 192 pts)

  11. T1 cases (n = 89)

  12. T2 cases (n = 103)

  13. Conclusions • Our data confirmed the prognostic value of • EGC definition • T2 cancers are not necessarily to be considered • as advanced disease • Stage Ia and Ib should be evaluated as a single • class of pts with a good prognosis • T2 cancer updated classification is not likely • to provide further prognostic indications
