  10. “i2i” - Innovation 2010 Initiative OBJECTIVES / AREAS • Human capital formation • Schools (modernisation, computerisation), education (IT training centers, e-learning) • Research and Development - R&D • Dissemination of innovation and the audiovisual sector: • Skills to use new technologies • Audiovisual - creation of content, production and broadcasting facilities • Development of SMEs and entrepreneurship • EIF participation in funds and Venture Capital • Information Communication Technology networks and access “i2i” supporting growth and employment IDATE Foundation’s Seminar

  11. “i2i” - ICT NETWORKS “ICT networks + access to them” consisted of : • Trans-European, broadband and multimedia networks. • Infrastructure providing local access, • especially in the EU’s less developed regions. “i2i” ICT networks policies : • have social impact favouring inclusion and reducing digital divide • in less developed areas and accession countries • in support of local initiatives IDATE Foundation’s Seminar

  12. “i2i” RESULTS First “i2i” was achieved with success: Total by end 2003 Approved loans: EUR 21bn Signed loans: close to EUR 17bn “i2i” - ICT networks by end 2003 Approved loans: EUR 4.9bn 29 projects Demand existed and EIB was able to meet it IDATE Foundation’s Seminar 11
