Omega Protein • Omega Protein is North America’s largest producer of marine protein and the world’s largest producer of fish oil. • We are vertically integrated from catch through production, ensuring product quality and integrity. • Omega Protein currently uses 41 fishing vessels and 38 spotter planes, housed at the company’s home ports and processing plants on the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic coast. • The strategic system of warehouses, barge, railcar and container loading facilities, allow for an efficient supply to customers throughout the U.S. and foreign destinations.

Omega Protein’s Sustainable Measures • The entire fish is rendered, thus no by-product or offal is created • The number of fishing vessels has significantly decreased over the decades, which has decreased the total number of fish caught over that period • Typical by-catch is less than 1% • Omega Protein’s vessels use a net mesh that allows smaller and immature fish to escape • The natural spawning cycle is protected by limiting harvest from April through October. • Weekend fishing and fishing in popular recreational waters are voluntarily restricted- results in a 30% reduction in fishing efforts by menhaden fleet • Illegal, Unregulated, and Unreported fish are banned from our processes • Do not participate in roe fisheries
Independent Regulators Statements • Records indicate typical catch is less than 10% of the Gulf and 20% of the Atlantic biomass. • The most recent government stock assessments (Gulf menhaden in 2004 and Atlantic menhaden in 2006) concluded that neither fishery is over-fished, nor, is overfishing occurring. • Menhaden are able to reproduce in large numbers. According to the ASMFC 2006 Assessment Report, “… fecundities range from 38,000 eggs for a small female to 362,000 eggs for a large female…” This means that a relatively small number of females can replace the population in a very short period of time. • The commercial menhaden industry is subject to numerous federal, state, local, and self imposed management measures to ensure the sustainability of the menhaden resource.

Traceability and Environment • Our Lot Tracement Program traces a particular lot of fish meal, fish oil, or fish solubles to specific days and locations. • We are committed to good manufacturing practices with HAACP and GMP certifications by the AFIA program,“Safe Feed, Safe Food.” • All Omega Protein production plants have on-site air and water treatment facilities to monitor emissions and any environmental impacts.
