The Navajo Tribe Pronounced: Nava-ho By: Makayla Hancock
Diet There was acorns , antelope , beans , cedar berries , corn, deer, elk, grapes, juniper berries, mescal, mountain sheep , pinion nuts, and potatoes.
Beliefs/Celebrations/Ceremonies The Navajo tribe believed that it should be harmony with nature and people. There religion is called Hozho meaning harmony, goodness, and beauty in the world. Today they are now for Christianity beliefs.
Roles Normally the men care for the animals and also hunt for deer and prairie dogs. The sons learned the same thing. The women prepare the food or weave pot baskets. The girls learn the same thing.
Housing The Navajo people lived in round houses called hogans. These houses are made out of wood, earth, and mud. These houses mean “ the place home”.
Leadership There is one leader that rules over a group. This person says what goes and how things are going to run and be. It is like a government or economy.
How the European explorers changed the Navajo tribe The European explorers changed the Navajo tribe by the U.S. military arrived and messed up there land, finally the Navajo were forced to surrender. Afterward, they had to do a 9,000 mile walk called “The Long Walk”. Even though the U.S. government and the Navajo tribe had conflict the Navajo people helped them make a code for World War 2.
Primary Sources: Diet I think most of these foods come from hunting. I also think that there a big fan of berries and wheat.
Primary Source: Beliefs/Celebrations/Ceremonies I think there must been something that happened that made them switch to Christianity.
Primary Source: Roles I infer that many generations have been taught these things for many years.
Primary Source: Housing I think the blessings they put on there houses give them good luck and make them feel safe. I infer that the men builds the houses because the men normally does the hunting, so it would make sense for hem to build them.
Primary Source: Leadership I think there would be a lot of conflict with having a leader for a group, because people might think there decision is harsh and unfair leading more conflict from the situation.
Navajo Legends! Summary The coyote thought he would fight the giant. But walked right in his belly thinking it was a cave. So he teamed up with people stuck too and he stabbed the giants heart and he took one last breath and jumped out. Thought I think this story is about hoe the navajoian think of the power of animals.
