Style • Diction – “the choice of words used in writing and speech” (Handbook 134) • Sentence structure – “Sentences generally flow from a subject to a verb to any objects, complements, or modifiers, but they can be ordered in a variety of ways to achieve emphasis” (Handbook 509)
Style - Diction • Mark Twain once said, “The difference between the right word and almost the right word is the difference between ‘lightening’ and ‘lightening bug.’ (Handbook 582) • It was a productive meeting. • (what does that mean?)
