  2. Rope Skipping Canada’s Mission Rope Skipping Canada supports and promotes rope skipping as a recreational pursuit and a competitive sport in Canada.

  3. Information Session Purpose: • To provide a comprehensive overview of the direction of rope skipping in Canada • To have an open dialogue with the membership

  4. Drivers of Change • Declining membership • The need to move the sport to a position of acceptance inthe larger sport community • The need to create sustainability • The need to comply with NCCP

  5. Objectives To grow the sport of rope skipping To provide an optimal experience for our athletes To create a long term athlete development program To develop leadership capacity among our athletes To provide governance

Changes to Date • Name change – Align with other national amateur sporting organizations • Achieved charitable status from CRA to solicit donations and grants to develop the sport • Focus the Vision and Values of the organization on the outcomes of the sport from and athlete perspective • Recognize the difference between athlete development, recreational activities and structured competitions

Roles Rope Skipping Canada • Support and assist provincial/territorial organizations in the development of rope skipping (guidelines, policies, education, insurance) • Provide national oversight of the sport (rules, policies, administration and communication) • To develop rope skipping nationally and internationally • Engage with governmental and non-governmental agencies • Engage with other rope skipping organizations • Operate the RSC National Championships

Roles - continued Provincial /Territorial Rope Skipping Organizations • Support and assist local clubs, teams, and athletes in the development of the sport of rope skipping in their respective provinces/territories • Provide local oversight of rope skipping (rules, policies and administration related to operations within their respective provinces/territories) • Contribute to the development of the rope skipping locally • Oversee and promote local, regional and provincial workshops, competitions and championships

RSC National Championships Restructuring • Aligns with Canadian Sport for Life • What is changing? • 2012-2013 - introduce a modified 8-9 category as the entry-level category for nationals • 2013-2014 - introduce a modified U-10 (10 and under) category • 2014-2015 - introduce a modified U-11 (11 and under) category • The modified format and competition structure will be announced in September • These changes only affect the RSC National Championships

  11. What Our Partners Are Doing • FISAC-IRSF • World Championships -15+ • Youth Tournament - 12+ • U-12 do not compete at FISAC-IRSF World Championships or Youth Tournament • European Rope Skipping Association - European Youth Tournament - 12-14 - European Open Tournament - 15+

  12. What Our Partners Are Doing (continued) • USAJR • Four age categories at nationals • 12-14 • 15+ • 15-17 • U-12 with modified events

  13. What are our Partners Doing (continued) • British Rope Skipping Association - 12-14 - 15-17 - 18+ (separate novice competition for Under 11) • Belgium - U-12 is a separate competition (modified events) - 12+ follow the FISAC-IRSF competition model

Summary of Goals • To grow rope skipping in Canada • Increased participation in rope skipping across Canada • Inclusion in multi-sport events such as Canada Games, PanAm Games and Olympic Games • To increase athlete retention • Facilitate overall athlete development • Implement a clear and gradual transition from recreational to competitive rope skipping
