What is a DEA agent? • DEA Special Agents are a select group of men and women from diverse backgrounds whose experience and commitment make them the leading federal drug law enforcement agents in the world.
Requirement for DEA • 21 years old, and no older than 36 years at the time of applying • U.S. Citizen • Valid drivers license • Willingness to relocate to any U.S. location • Able to retain a top secret security clearance • In excellent physical condition • Possess sharp hearing acuity (hearing aids are disqualifying); Distance Vision: 20/20 or better in one eye, 20/40 or better in the weaker eye. If you need glasses or contact lenses to meet these standards, then you should also have distance vision of 20/200 or better in each eye without glasses or contact lenses; Near Vision: 20/30 or better (can be with corrective lenses); Normal color vision; and Are able to carry 45 pounds or more, capable of heavy lifting

Salary • New DEA agents are hired at the GS-7 level ($35,369 to $44,729) or GS-9 level ($39,448 to $50,905), depending upon experience and education (BLS.gov). Within three years it is very possible to reach the GS-12 pay level. Program outcomes vary according to each institution’s specific curriculum, and employment opportunities are not guaranteed.
