Welcome to Key Stage 1 Year 1. Parents’ Information Meeting. The Year 1 Team Two parallel Year 1 classes will run  alongside each other: Holly Class: Miss Betsy Caudle and Mrs Kellie Clark Elder Class: Mrs  Jenny Garbutt, Ms  Cat Boaz, Miss Jo Case and Mrs Emma Farthing.

  1. Welcome to Key Stage 1Year 1 Parents’ Information Meeting

  2. The Year 1 Team Two parallel Year 1 classes will run  alongside each other: Holly Class: Miss Betsy Caudle and Mrs Kellie Clark Elder Class: Mrs  Jenny Garbutt, Ms  Cat Boaz, Miss Jo Case and Mrs Emma Farthing

  3. Arriving at School • Doors will open at 8:40 • There will be a named peg for every child for coats and PE bags. • Lunch boxes should be placed in the trolley. • Book bags should go in the named drawer in the classroom. • Monies, permission slips, correspondence for the office should be placed in the class folder. • We are given a weekly list of who is going to After School Club. Please name everything clearly!

  4. Morning routine • Children don’t need to self register. • Independence encouraged • Gates locked at 8:55 – if late, please register at the office • Activities will be out on the tables and carpet. • Play based learning to more formal learning

  5. How will your child be learning? • Will be similar to Foundation Stage but will progress to more formal learning • Variety of subjects covered through play based learning. • Daily phonics sessions

  6. Assemblies Once children enter KS1 they are required to take part in daily assemblies. • Whole school • Singing • Achievements • Sharing

  7. Morning break • Most playtimes on large field/playground. • Snack time will be in the middle of the morning. • A piece of fruit is provided for each child. • A drink of water needs to be provided by parents in a named water bottle.

  8. Lunch Time • Entitled to free school meals MUST register online by the previous Thursday. • Healthy school / Eco school • Independence

  9. Home Time • The school day ends at 3.15 and teachers will bring the children to you. • Please wait within the fenced area and make yourself obvious!! • We cannot let children go home with anyone other than the expected adult. • Please write any changes to collection routines on the board outside the cloakroom.

  10. What will your children be learning? We have 6 topics across the year:

  11. PE PE bags to be left at school throughout the term. PE bag needs to have: T shirt ~ white plain Shorts~ blue plain PE footwear~ plimsolls/trainers Plain dark jogging bottoms for outdoor PE Spare socks Please name everything clearly.

  12. Shoes In keeping with the uniform policy, children are required to wear black shoes only in school. For PE lessons children need a pair of trainers. These need to be kept in their PE bag. Plimsolls are not suitable for activities on the field. Suitable shoes for the climbing frame- may be their PE shoes.

  13. Outdoor Learning We are able to provide great facilities for outdoor learning to take place: • Year 1 outdoor area • Large field • Willow domes • Outdoor classroom • Forest school/nature reserve

  14. How will we communicate with you? • Termly topic overviews shared with you at the start of each term. • Class Dojo – sharing pictures and updates and reminders

  15. Monitoring Progress • Monitored using ‘EYEs’ – End of Year Expectations Continuous assessment in: Reading Writing Maths • Children assessed at six points in the year. • Progress will be discussed at Parents Evenings in October and March. • You will receive an end of year report in July.

  16. Phonic Screening Check • At the end of Year 1 all children have to undergo phonic screening. • It takes place in June. • Children have to read a mix of 40 real and non words. • Results are shared with parents.

  17. Read, read, read! Please fill in their reading record books. • Listen to your child minimum 3 days a week. • Reading to your child is also extremely beneficial! • Weekly class library book. • Talk to your child about their learning. How you can support your child’s learning? Engagement with your child’s learning is crucial to good progress.

  18. Last but not least • Please contact the school office if your child is ill. • Please let us know if there are any changes in children’s lives. • Open door policy. • Parent helpers
