Welcome to North Douglas Elementary 3rd Grade Ms.Hayes’ Class
Hello, and welcome to a new school year!!! I’m really excited to begin the 2013-2014 year in thirdgrade, and look forward to working with you and your child. Thirdgrade is a very challenging year and students learn several critical thinking strategies.
School Vision North Douglas Elementary envisions a partnership with families and the community that provides a positive, safe, supportive, and challenging atmosphere. We promote a lifelong learning experience that empowers all students to reach their maximum potential in a diverse environment. We commit to fostering the character development and academic success of every student through proven instructional strategies and technology. North Douglas Elementary School is a place of hope for a better future where individuals are valued and inspired to discover their dreams.
My Vision When a student enters my classroom they will be entering a place where learning is the main focus. From the way the topics are taught to my management style, everything will be done with the students’ best interests in mind. As a teacher, it is my job to instill a love of learning in my students. Everything that I do in the classroom supports this love and helps the students promote the development of their character.
Student Expectations • Behavior - I emphasize the seriousness of education, respectfulness of the classroom environment, and the importance of students taking responsibility for their own behavior. • Class work – All class work is expected to be turned on time.
Parent Expectations • What I ask of you is to please encourage your child, praise their accomplishments, read to them daily, listen to them on a daily basis, assist them with homework , and communicate with meif there is a question or concern.
Conduct When students follows the rules, they are allowed extra privileges, verbal praises, and positive notes home.
Homework Your child will copy the assignments in their agenda daily. Please check your student's homework at home. Make sure it becomes a habit, and your child knows that home will follow up on the daily assignments.
Lunch Program • Prepay for your child's breakfast or lunch! Go to www.parentonline.net • Parents, please note that students can purchase lunch for $1.80 (unless your child has qualified for a reduced price lunch - $0.40). • Breakfast can be purchased for $1.25 (unless qualified for reduced price breakfast - $0.30). • Please be aware of the charges that your child accumulates. The maximum amount of lunch charges allowed is $5.00.
Transportation • If your child is going home a different way, a note must be sent in on the morning of the change. Please remember that this is extremely important and we cannot allow a child to go home a different way even if the child “says” my mom told me to ride the bus or to be a car rider today. This is for the safety of your child.
BUS RIDERS • Thursday, August 7th: Buses will leave the school at 2:15 • Friday, August 8th: Buses will leave the school at 2:15 • Monday, August 9th: Buses will leave the school at 2:30
Conference Requirements • This is an opportunity for us to discuss your child’s academic progress and behavior. • As stated in the N.D.E.S Handbook we are required to have a minimum of 2 conferences during the school year.
Dress Code • Every student enrolled in the Douglas County School System is expected to observe a standard of grooming and dress consistent with the level of formality of the school setting.
