  3. The scope • Vectors and matrices • Linearity • Multivariable scalar and vector functions • Basics of optimization • Fourier sum and series  • Derivatives and integrals • Differential equations • Time harmonic functions • Basic electric circuits

  4. How to pass The courseconsists of fourparts • Lectures • Essay • Exercises • Matlab-labs AfterYouhavepassedallparts, Youhavepassed the course!

  5. Lectures Lecturesare on 5.9, 12.9 and 19.9 Yougive the lectures in smallteams Each of Youhas to givetwo 45 minuteslectures I willallot the teams and subjects and informYoubyemailthisevening Youhave to attendfourlectursgivenbyothergroups and writeshortcommentaries on them, too.

Commentaries In a commentary, Youmust • Review the main issues of the lecture • Mention at leastoneissuewhichwasexplainedwell • Give at leastone suggestion how to improve the lecture • Point out possiblemistakes, ifany Concentrate on the mathematics, not on the way of presentation The commentarymustbesent to me withinoneweek of the lectureconcerned

  7. Essay Youhave to write a threepagesessayindividually The instructionswillfollow the rules of IEEE conferencepapers I willallotsubjects to You and informYoubyemailthisevening (furtherinstructionsattached) Youhave to reviewfouressays, too.

Essay: schedule • 24.9. 16:00 Send me the first version of your essay. • 25.9. 16:00 I deliver the essays to be reviewed • 30.9. 16:00 Send me the reviewer’s reports • 1.10. 16:00 I will give You feedback (mine & reviewer’s) • 7.10. 16:00 Send me the corrected version of your essay • 10.10. 16:00 My final feedback
