Challenge • A huge storm is coming and you have to build a shelter to protect us from the rain and wind! • But what are you going to use to build the shelter? That’s the tricky part!
Building Material • You will make your storm shelter out of clay… • BUT YOU HAVE TO MAKE YOUR OWN CLAY… • WITHOUT A RECIPE!
Clay Making Menu • You will be given $20 to spend on materials. You must budget the money to purchase the materials that you need. You have the following materials to work with… • Each material costs $1 per scoop.
Keeping a Recipe • You will be given a recipe card to keep a record of the recipe for your clay. • You must be careful to write down everything that you put in your clay.
Project Schedule Today:-Introduce lesson-Create dough, keeping track of your budget and recipe -Post recipe on wall -Build shelter Next Time:-Test shelter -Write improvement plan-Post pictures of dwelling along with improvement plan on wall Storm Shelter Wall
Testing We will test your dwelling to make sure it can stand up to wind and water weathering in the following ways:-Wind Weathering: The Fan Test!-Water Weathering: The Strainer Test!
