  2. What do you bring to the job market? Knowledge: • Knowledge of the broad field of American Studies • Expertise in e.g. African American history and culture, international relations, and so on (depending on your area of specialization Academic skills: • Critical and independent thinking • Excellent/good oral and written communication skills in English • Solving complex challenges - together with other students

  3. Job Perspectives • The MA NAS only started in September 2012. Therefore, no data have as yet been collected about job placement of NAS graduates. However, the following slides give the figures for students with a Humanities BA or MA degree.

  4. Humanities graduates, 2009-2012 74% find a job within 2 months. 78% immediately find a professional university or academic level job. More or less 47% find first job their personal network (family, friends, lecturers, internship, job) 29% find first job via vacancy. 6% are asked to continue to work at the internship location. www.yourprospectsforwork.nl

Ik werf deelnemers en sponsoren, schrijf Engelse en Nederlandse webteksten, zoek locaties voor conferenties, ik schrijf sales proposals en evaluaties en ik ben verantwoordelijk voor alle externe communicatie mbt. de conferenties. Example internship (10 EC) Stagiair(e) bij de Directie Westelijk Halfrond - Afdeling Noord-Amerika en Koninkrijkszaken (DWH/NK), Ministerie voor Buitenlandse Zaken Vanaf medio januari/ begin februari 2013 zijn er bij DWH/NK twee plekken voor nieuwe stagiair(e)s. De duur van een stage is in principe drie-zes maanden (in overleg), met een werkweek van 36 – 40 uur. Functieomschrijving en takenpakket: • Verrichten van ondersteunende werkzaamheden voor de landenmedewerkers VS, Canada, Mexico en/of de Adviseur Koninkrijkszaken bij diverse lopende zaken, zoals het schrijven van beleidsnotities en het beantwoorden van Kamervragen. • Het assisteren bij de organisatie van lunchlezingen en andere publieke evenementen op het ministerie over onderwerpen die het werk van de afdeling betreffen. • Bijhouden van de actualiteit en opstellen van wekelijks nieuwsoverzicht voor de minister. StudierichtingVoor beide stages dient de stagiair(e) een derdejaars Bachelor of Master student te zijn aan een WO-instelling. Achtergrondkennis van en ervaring en affiniteit met de Verenigde Staten, Canada, Mexico en/of de Caribische Landen van het Koninkrijk zijn een voordeel.
