  2. Formation of a new organism or individual This new organism or individual has identical genetic information to its parent. What is Asexual Reproduction?

  3. Examples of Asexual Reproduction Mitosis

  4. Examples of Asexual Reproduction Cell Division

  5. Binary Fission • Budding • Sporulation • Vegetative Reproduction • Regeneration/ Fragmentation

  6. BACTERIA Unicellular (single celled) Do not contain a true nucleus Examples include: cholera, syphilis, anthrax and leprosy What organisms use Asexual Reproduction?

  7. PROTISTS Unicellular DNA is contained in a nucleus. Are the base of many food chains (example: plankton in a marine ecosystem) What organisms use Asexual Reproduction?

  8. FUNGI Bodies of these organisms are made up of tiny filaments Includes: yeast, moulds and mushrooms What organisms use Asexual Reproduction?

  9. What did the carrot say about the mushroom at the party? FUNGI JOKE!

  10. HE WAS A FUN GUY! FUNGI JOKE!

  11. What organisms use Asexual Reproduction? • ANIMALS • Can be divided into 2 distinct groups: • 1) Vertebrates (have backbones) • Humans are vertebrates, but do not reproduce asexually aside from body cells • 2) Invertebrates (do not have backbones) • Examples include: sponges, jellyfish, worms and insects • Reproduce asexually to form one or more identical offspring from a single parent.

  12. PLANTS Repair themselves by mitosis (asexual reproduction). Ensures that each new plant will have the same DNA as the parent. What organisms use Asexual Reproduction?
