  6. Takashi Fujiki (Faculty of Education, Nagasaki University, Japan) DVTS (Digital Video Transport System) • http://www.sfc.wide.ad.jp/DVTS/index.html • Need: digital movie camera of home use and PC with IEEE1394 I/F • Software: to send a digital movie from camera to network through IEEE1394 I/F, and to receive the digital movie from network to display device through IEEE1394 I/F. • Quality: 780x480, 30fps, NTSC • Transmission bit rate: 30 Mbps

  7. Takashi Fujiki (Faculty of Education, Nagasaki University, Japan) Classroom Construction • 3 Screens 1)DVTS 2)Trans. Chat 3)Web-GIS • 2 Mics • 2 Video Cameras for DVTS ChNU NU

  8. Takashi Fujiki (Faculty of Education, Nagasaki University, Japan) Snap shots (ChNU) • Exchange • Introduction and Q&A with Trans. Chat

  9. Takashi Fujiki (Faculty of Education, Nagasaki University, Japan) Construction of KSU • Monitors 1)2 schools 2)Sending picture 3)Trans. Chat 4)IRC • 2MICs • video camera

  10. Takashi Fujiki (Faculty of Education, Nagasaki University, Japan) Translation Chat System(Japanese <-> Korean) • Short sentence • Divide a sentence by block • Expression look like not conversation

  11. Takashi Fujiki (Faculty of Education, Nagasaki University, Japan) Web-GIS as Learning Material • Displaying ratio of electric power generation • Also using graph

  12. Takashi Fujiki (Faculty of Education, Nagasaki University, Japan) Behavior of Bit Rate in Learning ChNU-KSU NU-KSU • NU KSU : 29 Mbps (Full frame) • ChNU KSU : 6 Mbps (7 fps) ChNU KSU : 8 Mbps (7 fps) • Domestic DVTS communication obtained high quality picture.

  13. Takashi Fujiki (Faculty of Education, Nagasaki University, Japan) Results of Questionnaire Availability • Learner’s average: 3.6 • Teacher’s average: 3.4 • Availability: very high • Learner’s evaluation : good

  14. Takashi Fujiki (Faculty of Education, Nagasaki University, Japan) Conclusion • We practiced international distance learning about environment education using high quality movie through gigabit network, human and chatting translation system between Korea and Japan. • Domestic DVTS communication obtained high quality picture. • Students and teachers’ evaluation about availability was very high.

  15. Takashi Fujiki (Faculty of Education, Nagasaki University, Japan) Future Work • Distance Learning using HDTV

  16. Takashi Fujiki (Faculty of Education, Nagasaki University, Japan) Thank you very much.I am appreciate for your kind attention. Takashi FUJIKI (Faculty of Education, Nagasaki University) t-fujiki@net.nagasaki-u.ac.jp

  18. Takashi Fujiki (Faculty of Education, Nagasaki University, Japan) Concept • Global education: the Earth Environment Problem. • Easily break through the wall of country using Distance Education System. “ Let’s think about future energy beyond the sea “ • 3 points connection: connecting between three points, Gwangju, Fukuoka and Nagasaki. • High quality movie: using DVTS • Effective class: using Trans. Chat and Web-GIS

  21. Faculty of Education, Nagasaki University, Japan Class Work Content • Learning about Energy Problem (Theme: Lets think future of energy beyond the sea!) • Materials: Map and graph using Web-GIS (Comparing with quantity of electric power by power generation about Korea, Japan, and other country) • Explanation by expert (Kind of power generation and quantity, and new energy)

  22. Faculty of Education, Nagasaki University, Japan Class Work Expansion • Showing Coals • Burning coal has many problems. (Done away with fossil fuel, Exhaust harmful gases, Air pollution, Rise in temperature, Acid rain) • Electric power is clean. • Electric power is generated with coals. • Our countries, Korea and Japan, 60% of electric power generation need coal etc.. • Thinking dream energy together.
