  1. The Road so far …. Fascist Rome – Mussolini vs. the Church By: Sydney Vandewint

  2. Historical Information • Curia Julia built in 44 BC under Julius Caesar • Mussolini marched on Rome in October of 1922 • The King Victor Emanuel III then handed power over to him and the Fascist party • “The Master Plan” • The third Rome • New Building projects – getting back to their roots • Some propaganda he used in order to be associated with Augustus: • Changing year to roman numerals and using E.F. (Era Fascista) • Building of the Foro Mussolini – representative of Roman Forum • Imperial Eagle

  3. The Concept • Through the use of Twine will examine Fascist Rome (1922) • Will be examining the struggle between the church and state • Curia Julia excavation – was Catholic church • Main Question: Who owns the past? • Connection to class: examining the concept of space and city planning

  4. Research! • Roads and Ruins: The Symbolic Landscape of Fascist Rome. • Recent Excavations in Rome 1900 • The Sullen Forum 1922 • http://query.nytimes.com/mem/archive-free/pdf?_r=1&res=9F03E6D71539EF3ABC4952DFB1668389639EDE&oref=slogin

  5. Using Twine • Interactive story from the point of view of an archaeologist hired by Mussolini to excavate the Curia Julia • Will have to deal with pressure from the church and Mussolini • Be careful what you do or say, you might just disappear • Easy to use, but took a while to figure out • Thank God for YouTube…

  6. Problems… • Only real problem is that my concept might be too linear for Twine • Slight bias • And it takes a degree of creativity
