Facts about Oxygen • Symbol: O • Atomic number: 8 • Atomic Mass: 15.9994 • Oxygen is Non-Metal • Melting Point:218.4 °C • Boiling Point:183.0 °C
History • The Oxygen was discovered 1774 by Joseph Priestly. Priestly called the gas produced. in his experiments ‘dephlogisticated air’ Antoine Lavoisier created the name Oxygen for this air. It was discovered that Oxygen makes up nearly 21& of the earths atmosphere. Oxygen is a colorless, odorless, tasteless gas.
Uses (Breathing) • Breathing: Oxygen is a gas that is used for breathing, Humans breath in Oxygen and if there was no Oxygen, humans wouldn’t be able to breathe.
Uses (Rocked Fuel) • Oxygen is also used for making excellent rocket fuel. Liquid Oxygen combined with Liquid Hydrogen makes the rocked fuel.
Uses (Welding) • Oxygen can also be combined with acetylene to form an extremely hot flame, that can be used for welding.
