  1. UCLA support for THEMIS Status Reports of THEMIS EPO & GBO Magnetometers Chris. T. Russell, Yasong Ge, Peter Chi, Mark Moldwin and Tung-shin Hsu August 06, 2007

  2. EPO Milestones • Goal - Install 10 sites between spring 04 and fall 05 *11th Site not included in original EPO proposal.

  3. GBO Data Status (UCLA)

  4. Sample THEMIS Magnetograms Sub auroral Latitudes High Latitudes

  5. Sample THEMIS Magnetograms-- Derby

  6. Website Service http://www-ssc.igpp.ucla.edu/uclamag/themis_center

  7. Mid-continent Magnetoseismic Chain (McMAC) • ● Field line resonance method requires close separation between ground stations in the north-south direction. • ● The mean north-south separation between two adjacent McMAC stations is 275 Km. • ● Joint operation with CANOPUS Churchill Line (Canada), IGPP-LANL (U.S.) and MAGDAS (Japan) provides the magnetic field data from L = 1.3 to 11+ at one local time (note: the widest stretch of magnetic latitude on the earth). • Pi: Peter Chi pchi@igpp.ucla.edu

  8. Glyndon, MN (Minnesota State U. Moorehead) Worthington, MN (Minnesota West College) McMAC Sites (All nine stations installed) Americus, KS (Emporia State U.) Bennington, NE (U. of Nebraska, Omaha) Purcell, OK (U. of Oklahoma) Linares, Mexico (Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León) Richardson, TX (U. of Texas, Dallas) Lyford, TX (Lyford High School) San Antonio, TX (SwRI)

  9. ULF Activity Observed by McMAC, CARISMA, IGPP-LANL Combined 1-day LT = UT – 6.37 (hr) 2-hour

  10. Lpp (model) An Example of McMAC Measurements:FLR Frequency & Equatorial Density 2006-6-15 1622-1704 UT 2006-6-15 • Model-predicted plasmapause L (or Lpp) well agrees with FLR-inferred results. • The low Lpp can be explained by the Kp value of 5+ earlier in the day

  11. McMAC Data Availability (as of 5/16/07)

  12. McMAC Data Dissemination • McMAC Web Site: (http://spc.igpp.ucla.edu/mcmac/) • Project information • McMAC data files • Density estimation (in preparation) • NASA VMO (UCLA Hub – • PI: Ray Walker) • To provide access to all McMAC data • Important in retrieving other space physics data for the same time intervals Contact Peter Chi (pchi@igpp.ucla.edu) for details.

  13. IGPP-LANLandSMALL Datahttp://spc.igpp.ucla.edu/uclamag/data_center/

  14. MEASURE (Magnetometers Along the Eastern Atlantic Seaboard for Undergraduate Research and Education ) magnetometer chain is distributed along the east cost of North American Continent. • Data is available through : http://measure.igpp.ucla.edu • PI is Mark Moldwin: mmoldwin@igpp.ucla.edu

  15. INTERMAGNET • The International Real-time Magnetic Observatory Network (INTERMAGNET) is distributed throughout: • African/Indian Ocean • Asia/Japan • Europe • Pacific Ocean/Australia/Antarctica • South/North America • Data is available in formats of ASCII and Binary files.

  16. Central Meridian of Substorm Current Wedgeis around Honolulu (Hon)

  17. Intermagnet Mid-latitude Stations Aug-29-2001
