Concept Maps and Learning Pathways Task Force Spring 2013 Chair: Professor Richard C. Larson
Task Force Members • Lori Breslow, MIT Teaching & Learning Laboratory • Chad Lieberman, Lord Foundation Postdoc • Jeffrey W Merriman, OEIT • Haynes Miller, Mathematics • James Orlin, Sloan School • David Pritchard, Physics • Sam Shames, Undergraduate Materials Science • Cole Shaw, TPP Masters student and OEIT to-be • Karen Willcox, Aero/Astro • Dick Larson, ESD (Chair) • Sanjay Sarma, Isaac Chuang & Vijay Kumar, ex officio
Short-Term Recommendations • ODL develop and support a repository for managing and re-using the educational objects making up the MITx courses and modules. • MITx work with edX to facilitate a deep analysis of the behavior of students using the edX platform for the purpose of collecting, analyzing, and displaying data that can inform potential users about the level, difficulty, quality, appeal, and other characteristics etc. of the objects in the repository. • ODL authorize OEIT to explore ways of displaying more interactive content, like assessments , simulations, computer program grading engines, etc., as part of the overall functionality of the MC3 concept inventory service.
MIT Educational “Nuggets” • An MIT “nugget” repository should support mapping to curricular topic models/learning objectives, and other educationally valuable data.
Create MIT educational “nuggets” from existing materials • Access control for authoring and viewing
