Howdoesitaffectteenagers • “Social media is becoming more than just a part of their world, it’s becoming their world. Teens are spending more and more time online, usually on a social media platform like Facebook or Twitter, and their online life is not just staying on their computer at home. ” (Austin McCann). • Many young adults now are always using their social media apps. They are texting, posting pictures via snapchat, tweeting, and liking pictures on instagram. • These can sometimes lead to cyberbullying. Many teenagers can talk bad about a picture they put, they can tweet them bad comments, and also publish an ugly picture they screenshotted.
Cont… • Selfies: trend of taking pictures of oneself. • Many young adults can pass hours taking selfies, many take more than 200 selfies per day. • According to many psychologist, taking “selfies” and posting them on social media is a cause of low self esteem. Many of them also say that “taking selfies can be detrimental to a person’s mental health and that indulging in them is indicative of narcissism, low self esteem, attention seeking behavior and self-indulgence.” (Rebecca Savastio) • It can lead to suicidal because people might not like a picture someone posted on an app or someone making a rude comment.
FACEBOOK! • Facebook is an online social networking site. Many teenagers use it to communicate with friends or family members from other places. • Teenagers try to compete with each other to see who has more friends or who gets more likes on pictures. They sometimes bully each other through this app.
Twitter! • Social networking site and also microblogging that lets you send and read short 140 letter text messages called “Tweets”. • Young adults meet new people through this media and they get to interact with fans (fandoms) across the world. Many teenagers are tweeting every 5-20 seconds.
Instagram! • Instagram is a way to share pictures you took and post them so family and friends could see them. • Through instagram many young adults started using the “hashtags” so other people see their pictures. • Many teenagers post a lot of pictures of themselves because of their low self esteem.
Kik! • Kik is a messenger app that connects you with everyone you love to talk to. • In this app, there are more apps where you could meet new people. There has been various cases where a teenager is supposedly talking to this really cute guy/girl and then next thing they know its and old man/woman talking to them. • Kik is sometimes the home of catfishes.
Snapchat! • Snapchat is a timed photo messaging application. • Teenagers send funny, weird, and crazy pictures to whichever friends they want or if they want they could post the picture as their story.
