Building Committee Recommendation March 22, 2010
Building Committee Summary • Reviewed the feasibility study • Reviewed building options (5 Building, 4 Building, 3 Building and 2 Building) • Involved the public • 2 Public forums • Public survey • Public could attend meetings • Every committee member had the opportunity to present his/her preferred plan.
Building Committee Recommendation • Consolidate to 4 buildings • Convert NLH into a middle school • Close Junior High school • Complete repairs to High School and Osceola Mills Elementary • Add on to PE if necessary
Advantages of 4-building plan • 4-building plan is in line with district enrollment, which continues to decline • 4-building plan allows space, if projections aren’t accurate and enrollment increases • 4-building plan reduces operating expenses
Next steps • School board approves the 4-building plan • Request proposals from architects for transforming NLH into a middle school • Start work with professionals to discuss specific building ideas and needs • Continue to inform community • Form next facilities committee to develop implementation plans for building improvements (HS, OME)
