  3. Emma Kelly’s Life Growing up in Statesboro Georgia, Emma began displaying a keen musical sense at a very young age. Later she became a proud mother of ten. Kelly began traveling around Georgia, playing at weddings, graduations, and conventions in order to help put each of her children through college.

  4. Emma Kelly’s Career Emma impressed Johnny Mercer with her wide knowledge of music, and the two embarked on a lifelong friendship. Johnny soon became her mentor and gave her first boost. At 53 he altered her from an only instrumental artist to a singer as well.

  5. Kelly’s Accomplishments • Kelly has played for three U.S. Presidents- Eisenhower, Kennedy, and Carter. • She as performed in a number of tribute concerts to Johnny Mercer • Emma was inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame, joining the illustrious ranks of fellow Georgia inductees like James Brown and The Allman Brothers.

  6. Emma Kelly Kelly has become a veritable Savannah landmark ever since being immortalized by author John Berendt in his best selling book, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.

  7. Emma Kelly Kelly seems amazed at the distance she has traveled since she started playing the piano, more than 70 years ago.
