  2. 1929 Martin was born on January 15, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia.

  3. 1935 In 1935, Martin was told that he could not play with his friends because they were white and Martin was black.

  4. 1948 In 1948, Martin graduated from Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia.

  5. 1953 In 1953, Martin was in Boston, Massachusetts and married Coretta Scott.

  6. 1955-1956 Martin led a boycott of the buses from 1955-1956 in Montgomery, Alabama because the bus company didn’t treat everyone equally.

  7. 1963 Martin led a march on Washington D.C. on August 28, 1963 and gave his famous “I Have A Dream” speech from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.

  8. 1964 Martin was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964 because he helped so many people.

  9. 1968 In 1968, Martin was assassinated. It was a very sad day.

  10. 1983 In 1983, our country began celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The day is the third Monday in January.
