3. Synopsis • There’s this luxury yacht. It gets taken over by pirates. Amy Fields, her dad and her stepmother are held hostage. Amy falls in love with a pirate called Farouz. Farouz betrays them and tells them who owns the yacht. All they want is a certain amount of money and they won’t give it to them. Amy is really upset because she is not with her mum. • Read the book to find out more.

Cross-curricular theme • There’s music because Amy plays the violin and it shows you what piece she is playing. • It also has some maths in because her dad is a banker and they’re trying to make a deal with how much money they give the pirates. • This also has literature in because Farouz tells stories to Amy at night. • Farouz’s stories also have some history in because he tells the story of how the camel star lost its tail.

5. Teaching Ideas If this became a class reader you could use some of these ideas below: • A diary entry from Amy or one of the pirates. • A poem from Farouz to Amy. • Act out a scene from the book. • A letter to the author. • A quiz on what has happened so far. • A quiz aboutthe characters. • A letter to Farouz from Amy.

6. Creative writing task • Re-write the ending of the book from the point where Amy meets Farouz’s brother. What would happen if they never met?
