Implementation progress • HRH production • Funding of health sciences education and training • Strategic framework developed and is now subject to extensive consultations with relevant stakeholders. • Main objective is to • Engage stakeholders on process issues that would facilitate increased production of health professionals to meet demand in the system • refocus existing grants and financial resources for better system outcomes • Health sciences academic development • National working group proposed to facilitate development of a Programme to facilitate health sciences academic development.
Implementation progress • HRH production • Specialist training • Dialogue with specialist groups planned for August 2007 • Nursing strategy • Advanced stage of development • Launch by mid-year at high level • Development of mid-level worker policy
Implementation progress • HRH development • HR practitioner training harmonization • Management and leadership development programme concepts developed for different needs. • Hospital Management programme implemented

Capacity constraints a challenge • Statutory councils engaged in developing own plans including SA Pharmacy council, HPCSA & Nursing Council (Nursing Strategy) • HRH performance indicators • Project specifications drafted for development of HR indicators. Potential funders for project are being engaged.
Implementation of HRH plan • Strong regional contribution and engagement with SADC, WHO Afro and African Union Ministers of Health • HR Information System developed with impending roll out to key pilot sites integrated with National health Information System
