  3. Definition • A hand-held mobile radiotelephone for use in an area divided into small sections, each with its own short-range transmitter and receiver.

  4. The First Cell Phones • The first cell phone ever made was created by Martin Cooper in the year 1973. • The phone was huge and weighted about 3 pounds.

  5. Cell Phone Technologies • The first cell phones only worked for calling and receiving calls. • The following are some of the technological advancements that cell phones have received in the past 35 years: • Text messaging, speakerphone, calendar and planner, color screen, camera, internet browser, video recording, E-mail access, radio, voice activated dialing, USB interface, polyphonic ring tones, MP3 player, touch screen, bluetooth interface, and GPS navigation.

  6. Text Messaging • Text messaging is now one of the most popular uses of the cell phone technology. • Text messaging was launched to the cell phone market in the year 1993; at the time text messages were not very popular mostly because you could only type a few number of words.

  7. Calendar and Planner • This cell phone feature has proven to be very useful. Do you ever forget the date? If your cell phone has a date calendar all you have to do is open it up and it will tell you the date. • Many cell phones also have planners which allow you to mark important dates on your calendar.

  8. Color Screen • Cell phones haven’t always had the fancy real looking color and images on their screen. The first cell phones had a small black screen which only showed green numbers. • The first cell phone with a color screen was created in the year 2000.

  9. The Cell Phone Camera • The first camera phones were launched to the market in the year 2002. • The cell phone camera is a very useful and nice thing to have; it lets you capture snap shots of the things you want whenever you don’t have a camera.

Internet Browser • Many cell phones now have internet browsers which allow individuals to browse the web and do things such as checking their E-mail and Facebook. • Different cell phones have different types on internet browsers; some cell phones have basic browsers which only allow you to see basic info and other phones come with more complex browsers which allow you to do things such as watch Youtube videos.

  11. Video Recording • Many cell phone cameras give you the choice of taking pictures or recording a video. • Cell phone video recorders are great because they allow you to capture every moment that you want on video.

  12. E-Mail Access • E-Mail access is a very useful application to have on a cell phone. • Many cell phones have direct E-Mail access straight from the phone menu, but in order to use this application an active internet connection is required.

  13. Bluetooth Interface • Bluetooth interface has proven to be a very practical application for cell phone users. Bluetooth interface allows cellular devices to connect with other cell phones or even bluetooth headsets in order to transfer information from one device to the other.

  14. Today’s Cell Phones • Today There are thousands and thousands of cell phone models. • Different cell phones have similar and different applications. • Some of the best selling cell phones now are the Motorola Razr, the Krzr, and the Apple I-Phone.

  15. Motorola Razr • The Motorola Razor’s slim and slick design has given it much popularity among cell phone users. • One of the best features offered by the Motorola Rzr is its long range bluetooth connection.

  16. Motorola Krzr • The Motorola Krzr’s elegant –slick design also made it very popular among cell phone users. • The Krzr’s 2MP camera with 8x zoom and via video capture and playbackcapabilitiesis one of the best camera’s made by Motorola.

  17. Future Cell Phones • In the next few years to come there are various new hi-tech cellular devices on their way to the consumer market. • Cell phone manufacturers such as Nokia and Motorola have already designed prototypes of their future products.

  19. Conclusion • Cell phones have evolved are constantly becoming better with the creation of new and more advanced technologies; we went from having brick size cell phones to having thin touch screen phones. I believe that cell phones will continue to get better and better in the years to come.
