More than 7 000 specialists of secondary technician education have graduated. 1030 students distributed in 40 classes are being trained now. The core of the vocational training includes 4 professions /6 specialties/ providing the third degree of professional qualification for: • the profession “System programmer” in the specialty “System programming”; • the profession “Technician of Computer Systems” in the specialty “Computing Equipment and Technologies”;the profession “Technician of Computer Systems” in the specialty “Computer Networks”; • the profession “Technician of Electronic Equipment” in the specialty “Industrial Electronics”; • the profession “Technician of Electronic Equipment” in the specialty “Microprocessor Equipment”; • the profession “Technician of Energy Facilities and Installations” in the specialty “Renewable Energy Sources” that has been included in the National List of Professions since 2009 and that has started since the school year 2009/2010for the first time in the country. The vocational training is carried out as modules or as subjects. English and German are intensively studied from the 8th grade to the 12th grade. PROJECT ACTIVITIES: For the period 2010-2012 VHSE is a beneficiary of the agreement between the Ministry of Education, Youth and Science and the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works called «Regional Development» - BG161PO001/1.1-02/2008 ”Support ensuring appropriate and effective state educational infrastructure contributing to the development of sustainable city areas» of the PROJECT SOFIA. Measures concerning improvement of energy efficiency of the building of VHSE will be applied as well as constructions of solar installations on its roof for practical training.

VHSE is a partner in a consortium of 7 states on the projectInstall+RESof the European program „Intelligent Energy for Europe” for the period 2010-2013 with the agreement N°: IEE/09/763/S12.558302 The name of the project: „Training courses for installers of small-scale renewable energy systems in buildings” The project Install+RES envisages to put into practice widely recognized and confirmed courses for qualifying and certifyinginstallers of RES systems such as solar thermal systems, photovoltaic systems, heat pumps and biomass in several European states: Bulgaria, Greece, Italy, Polandand Slovenia. It will be executed in accordance with the requirements of a Directive 2009/28/ЕС that promotes the use of energy from renewable sources and defines the qualification requirements for installers for the correspondent RES.
When both projects are completed, VHSE “John Atanasov” expects from the project SOFIA: • to achieve real results from the energy efficiency measures carried out in order to attain the control indicators of quality; • to have a renovated and attractive exterior and interior appearance of the architectural environment; • to possess one modern laboratory equipped for theoretical and practical training on photovoltaics, solar thermal systems and heat pumps; • to have introduced two solar installations /PVand solar thermal/ on the roof of the building supporting practical training of installers; • to have available accredited training materials concerning PV, solar thermal systems, heat pumps and biomass that will represent about 25% from the necessary training contents in the specialty “RES”, from the projectInstall+RES: • to be accredited as a training organization forInstall+REStraining courses for installers of small-scale installations of RES; • to have certified trainers for the courses for installers of small-scale installations of RES; • to have trained 48 certified installers from one pilot course and two training courses.
