  3. Why interview? • Selection Panel’s “Eyes and Ears” • Required per AFI 36-2249 • 4060 • Potential

  4. Relevance of ALO rating? • In 2007, a study was conducted by cadets at USAFA. The Ops Research Dept conducted a study to analyze the correlation between success at USAFA and the ALO 4060 evaluation. They did statistical analysis to see if cadets who performed well throughout their four years at USAFA had received higher ALO ratings. Cadets who received a higher ALO score were less likely to be involuntarily discharged during their time at USAFA. The results reinforced the value of the 4060.

  8. Initial meeting with parents • Familiar with military? • Selection process, websites, timetable, support • 10 essential messages

  9. Conduct the Interview • FEAR, RIDICULE, SARCASM • Make them feel at ease • Sincere interest, withhold bias, effective listener • Environment • Starbucks, hotel lobby, HEB, School, JROTC • Combine with school visit

  10. Note sheet? Template? • Avoid ‘yes’ and ‘no’ questions • LISTEN • Active listener, take notes (briefed) • OBSERVE • Use verbal/non-verbal info for possible follow up • TAKE NOTES • Record key words, remember AIR • USE RESUME • Record the ‘so what’ of the activity, or elaborate
