  2. The Patient • Caucasian Male • 76 years old • Asymptomatic • Artificial right knee replacement in 2008 with no complications • Wears hearing aids • Hospitalized following motorcycle accident in 1970 • Taking no medications • No known allergies

  3. The Lesion • Large • Widespread • White • Raised • Macula • Bilateral buccal mucosa • Ill-defined border • Epithelial involvement • Does not wipe off

  4. Clinical Presentation

  5. Patient Dialogue • Have you ever noticed this lesion before? (No) • Did your previous dentist tell you about this lesion? (No) • Do you ever feel your cheeks rubbing against something sharp on your teeth? (No) • Are your cheeks ever sore? (No) • Have you ever noticed yourself biting or chewing on your cheeks? (Yes) • How often do you bite or chew on your cheeks? (Every day; chewing is nervous habit)

Diagnosis • Differential Diagnosis • Morsicatio buccarum (Cheek chewing) • Leukoplakia • Allergy • Definitive Diagnosis • Morsicatio buccarum (Cheek chewing) • This diagnosis was made due to the patient’s admission of chewing his cheeks on a daily basis. • Treatment • No treatment is necessary.
