Oral Diagnosis and Oral Medicine Competency Case Brad Green Pt. Chart 436-8-71
The Patient • 15 year old black male. • Patient is in good health, taking no medications. • Came to UMKC SOD seeking to restore the space of #9, which was lost at age 12 due to trauma. He was also told by a private practice dentist that he would benefit from having his wisdom teeth removed.
The Lesion • There is a calcified body near the unerupted #16, visible on radiograph.
Patient Dialogue • Other than missing a front tooth, does anything about your mother bother you, or feel uncomfortable? No. • You have recently visited another dentist that recommended removal of your wisdom teeth, did he mention anything about an extra tooth or other object that may be close to your wisdom teeth? No.
Differential Diagnosis • Unerupted supernumerary tooth. • Compound odontoma.
Provisional Diagnosis/Treatment • Unerupted supernumerary tooth • Since the supernumerary tooth is not impinging on vital structures or tooth # 15, we recommend monitoring the condition for another year or two. When the maxillary third molars descend to a more favorable position for extraction, the supernumerary tooth will also be removed.
