  1. Lemon Bay High School Open House AP Human Geography SY 2018-2019

  2. What is AP Human Geography? • A university–level course taught in the high school • In the university this is a semester course; in high school it is a year-long course • The course has been designed by the College Board, and students who complete the course are required to sit for the AP Examination in AP Human Geography • Students who pass the exam are eligible for university credit

  3. AP Human Geography covers the following seven (7) units of study: 1- Geography: Its Nature & Perspective 2- Population & Migration 3- Cultural Patterns & Processes 4- Political Organization of Space 5- Agriculture, Food Production, & Rural Land Use 6- Industrialization & Economic Development 7- Cities & Urban Land Use

  4. Your student will need to practice time management in this course. • Your student will have more work than in a regular course. • Students will have something to do every night. • Students NEED to use a planner. • Work at home will usually consist of reading text and taking notes. (4-6 pages of reading per night) • It will take time for your student to adjust to the rigor of the course. What can you expect from this course?

  5. This course requires that students do lab work using maps and GIS programming. • Students are expected to know about current issues around the world, which sometimes includes discussion of more mature topics. • This course requires students to be able to utilize the course materials, including vocabulary, in written responses. (50% of the AP Exam is writing)

  6. I take your student’s education very seriously. I value his/her commitment to other courses & extra curricular activities. • I NEVER give any work, quizzes, or tests that do not have a direct correlation to the AP Curriculum Framework for this course. • I will not assign any work that does not increase your student’s knowledge and chance for success in AP Human Geography. • I will give ample notice for all due dates relating to homework, quizzes and tests. (Schoology) • I will design unit assessments and quizzes to resemble College Board AP Human Geography Exam. • I will do my best to promptly return student work.

  7. Additional Information: • In this course we use Schoology for all of our calendar dates, some of our work, and as a place for students to find resources and their reading assignments • Additionally, I use Remind as a way to make sure the students do not forget key due dates • There is parent access for Schoology and for Remind – I will provide parent access codes at your request • The best way to contact me is via email: • Colin.Ramsay@yourcharlotteschools.net
