Program Purpose and Mission Purpose • 1) To train our athletes in the way of the Lord through competitive athletics. • 2) To give witness to the hope that is within us to our competitor’s and spectators. • 3) To build and bring together the Waller Christian Academy community with the spirit and excitement of cheering together for our student-athletes. Mission “To build Christian character, to teach discipline, to learn how to face adversity with Godly courage and to equip tomorrow’s leaders to live for Christ through the medium of competitive athletics.”

Goals • Year one goals 2013-14 • To offer Volleyball, Cross Country, Basketball (boys and girls), Track, and Golf • To compete interscholastically on a provisional basis in the NHAL in Cross Country, Basketball, Track and Golf • To organize opportunities to complete in community rec. or club sports in Football, Volleyball, Baseball, and Softball • To utilize volunteer help to organize athletic opportunities for our 1st – 4thgraders • Year two goals 2014-15 • To offer Volleyball, Cross Country, Basketball, Track, Softball, Baseball, Flag Football at the 5th and 6th grade and JH Level as official members of the NHAL • To offer Volleyball, Cross Country, Basketball and Track for the 9th grade level playing an independent high school/JV schedule • To apply for TAPPS membership (June 2015)

Goals (Continued) • Year three goals 2015-16 • To offer the full slate of 5/6th and JH teams including 6 or 11 Man Football • To offer Volleyball, Cross Country, Basketball, Baseball, Softball, Track, and Golf for 9th and 10th grade level playing an independent high school/JV schedule • Year four goals 2016-17 • To compete as official TAPPS members • To continue in offering 5-8th grade school athletics and volunteer lead opportunities for 1st-4th grade

Program Expectations • To coach athletes with a biblical view that will have current and lifetime implications: • In self control and discipline (Prov. 12:1NLT) • In hard work (Col. 3:23) • In integrity (Prov. 10:9) • In humility (Prov. 16:24) • In coach-ability (Prov. 15:32) • In responsibility (Prov. 20:4) • In unity/servanthood (Prov. 11:24-25) • In understanding the value of failure in the context of biblical identity and proper response

Levels and Youth Involvement • Level 0: 1-4th grade • Not directly under the athletics program but supported through volunteers of the school to provide athletic opportunities through community recreation leagues. • Ideally volunteer coaches work with WCA to create a seamless transition. • Level 1: 5th-6th grade • School sponsored activities provided • Emphasis is not on winning but building a foundation of fundamental skills necessary for the game. • Primary focus on individual skills • No specialization (Ex. All players play all positions) • Every athlete plays equally • Focus is primarily on individual skills

Levels and Youth Involvement (Cont.) • Level 2: 7th-8th grades • School sponsored activities provided with NHAL post season play possibilities • Emphasis not on winning but building on the fundamentals and preparing concepts for the high school team • Team and individual training about equal • Extra individual training in the offseason • Some specialization introduced but all players still practice all positions • Every athlete plays but playing time becomes differentiated by ability and game situation.

Levels and Youth Involvement (Cont.) • Level 3: High School Junior Varsity • School sponsored activities • Greater emphasis on competing to win but primary focus on the continued building of fundamentals and team concepts related to the varsity team • Higher degree of specialization especially in the manor that will best help the varsity team • All players should still receive instruction in all positions to some degree. • A higher degree of instruction focused on the team • Individual training expected in the offseason • For the most part every athlete should play in every game, but playing time will not be equal and will be dependant on size, ability, position, attitude and game situation.

Levels and Youth Involvement (Cont.) • Level 4 High School Varsity • School sponsored activities with sanctioned TAPPS post season and state tournament possibilities • Emphasis on competing to win, never compromising the athletics purpose and mission in doing so • High degree of specialization that will best help the team • A higher degree of instruction focused on the team • Individual training expected in the offseason • Playing time and opportunities not guaranteed, as playing time will be dependant on size, ability, position, attitude and game situation. • Program wide • Create an atmosphere where God is honored before, during, and after practices and games • Make the most of athletics to develop the fundamentals of the faith • No players are cut. • Create a ribbon the runs through the entire athletics program for the entirety of the athletes time at WCA.

Online Store • Online fan apparel store provided by LIDS Team Sports • Fans will be able to custom design shirts on various brands • Can customize by sport, color or logo type and in men's, women's and kids styles • Doubles as a fundraiser, since WCA receives cash back and store credit from online purchases. • Example Store

Current Needs • Consider financially sponsoring part or all of these start up costs: • Volleyballs– Molten L2 – 6 for $203 or 12 for $406 • Girls’ Basketballs – Wilson Evolution 28.5 – 6 for $270 • Boys’ Basketballs – Wilson Evolution 29.5 – 6 for $270 • Junior Sized Footballs - Wilson GST Junior Football – 6 for $270 • Mueller First Aid Kit - $140 • Institutional Basketball Goals – Pro-Fold II -1 for $1300 or 2 for $2600 • Consider donating your time and talents to: • Marketing and fundraising ideas • Organization of events • Volunteer coaches for Volleyball, Cross Country, Football, Cheer, Basketball, Softball, Baseball, Tennis, Golf, and Track • Parent liaisons who are willing to work with coaches and volunteers regarding team travel, team events and working as a go between for coaches and parents.

  14. Future Booster Club • We are working on creating a booster club for the start of next year • Some of the roles of the booster club • Coordinate volunteer help for athletic events • Contribute funds to better enhance the team or organization's performance • Print promotional items like team schedules, programs, and other items (subject to approval by the head coach/AD) • Financially support the program by providing additional funding for coaches, staff, and event workers • Organize team events, such team meals • Work closely with the head coach • Discuss as official business any item that meets the definition or function of a booster club.

Conclusion • Odds and ends • Need physicals and med history/mandatory meeting August 27th • We will require reasonable athletic fees • Make sure to have signed up on the sign in sheet • Current opportunities – volleyball, cross country, football and later in the fall basketball • Invitation to our volunteer meeting August 6th • Abe Lincoln “Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe.”
