  3. F31- Predoctoral Fellowship to Promote Diversity Certification Letter • Reminder of the requirement for the inclusion of a letter with the application certifying eligibility for this program (PA-11-112). • No letter = application considered incomplete and not reviewed. http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-11-046.html

  4. Bio Sketch CHANGES coming! • Effective for applications due May 25,2011 • Instructions include a modification of the personal statement section – applicants can now provide a description of personal issues that may have reduced productivity. • This is OPTIONAL http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/not-od-11-045.html

  5. Bio Sketch/Fellowship Changes • Effective for applications due August 8, 2011 • Instructions include a modification of the personal statement section – Permit Fellows to describe circumstances that may have resulted in a hiatus in training or reduced scientific productivity. • This is OPTIONAL http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-11-050.html

  7. New Forms - Again? *NIH, AHRQ, CDC, FDA & NIOSH* • ADOBE-FORMS-B1 are required for deadlines after May 7, 2011. • Submissions using the ADOBE-FORMS-B application forms after May 7, 2011 will NOT be accepted. http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/not-od-11-007.html

Reminder:Time Limit for NIH Resubmission Applications • NIH will not accept a Resubmission that is submitted later than thirty-seven months after the date of receipt ("receipt date") of the initial New, Renewal, or Revision application. • This policy went into effect for Resubmissions intended for the January 25, 2011 receipt date and thereafter http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/not-od-10-140.html

  9. NCI Competing Renewals • NCI has strict 10% budget cap for competing renewal applications. • PI cannot ask for more than 110% of the amount you received in DIRECT costs for the last non-competing year. • IF application is submitted exceeding the cap, and selected for funding, NCI will reduce the amount of the award to comply with policy. http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/not-ca-08-026.html

  10. Non-Competing Grant Awards under the Current Continuing Resolution “Under the continuing resolution (currently through March 4, 2011) NIH will issue non-competing research grant awards at a level below that indicated on the most recent Notice of Award (generally up to 90% of the previously committed level).” • NIH will consider upward adjustments to these levels after the final appropriation is enacted. http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-11-037.html

  15. Cost Sharing • Cost sharing change: “inclusion of voluntary committed cost sharing is prohibited” • Cost sharing may be included only in programs asking for mandatory cost sharing. http://www.nsf.gov/pubs/policydocs/pappguide/nsf11001/gpg_sigchanges.jsp

  16. Primary Place of Performance • In addition to the awardee organization’s name, the cover page now includes the Project/Performance Site Primary Location. Don’t forget the 9 digit zip code!!
