  4. Describing feelings or qualities Frequently Used Adjectives رَجُلٌ صادِق وَلَدٌ كذّاب بِنْتٌ كذّابةاِمْرَأةٌ صادِقَة سَعيدوَجْهٌ وَجْهٌ حَزين بِنْتٌ حَزينةبِنْتٌ سَعيدة

  5. Giving origin or nationality هاتِفٌ يابانيّ سيّارة يابانِيّة رَجل أمريكيّ اِمرَأة أمريكِيّة

  6. Telling about characteristics خَطٌّ جميل بَطَّةٌ قبيحة قِطٌّ سمين قِطٌّ رفيع رَجُلٌ عَجوز رَجُلٌ شابّ حِذاءٌ قَديم حَقيبَة جَديدة

  7. Telling about size and measurement كبير صغير قريب بعيد قصير طويل

  8. Expressing a judgment and a value مُمِلّ مُمْتِع ذَكيّ غَبيّ حَكيم جاهِل

  9. Telling about colors أبْيَض أسْوَد أحْمَر أزْرَق أخْضَر أصْفَر بُرْتُقالي بَنَفْسَجي • White (Abyad) • Black (Aswad) • Red (Ahmar) • Blue (Azraq) • Green (Akhdar) • Yellow (Asfar) • Orange (Burtuqali) • Purple (Banafsaji)

  11. قَلَمٌ أسْوَدٌ لَوْحٌ أخضَرٌ كِتابٌ بُرْتُقاليٌّ بَيْتٌ أبْيَضٌ • We use colors to describe things • Colors in Arabic, come after the words they describe

  13. قلم أزرق سيّارة زرقاء نافِذَة بُنِّيّة باب بُنّي حقيبَة خَضْراء لَوح أخْضَر If what is described is masculine, the color will be masculine. If what is described is feminine, then the color will become feminineas well.

  14. Making colors feminine 1. If the color starts with أ, move theأ to the end and drop the ءto sit on the line after the :ا أسوَد سَوْداءأخضَر خَضْراء

  20. How to use adjectives what is an adjective ? • Remember that an adjective: • Is used to describe something • Comes after what is described in the Arabic language • Agrees with the gender, case, definiteness, and the numberof the noun it is describing

  21. Making Adjectives Dual بِنتٌ جَميلَةٌ بِنتان جميلَتان الكِتابُ الجَديدُ الكِتابان الجديدان سيّارةٍ قديمةٍ سيّارَتَيْن قديمَتَيْن شابًّا صغيرًا شابَّيْن صغيرَيْن

  22. Making Adjectives Plural بِنتٌ جَميلَةٌ بَناتٌ جميلَاتٌ الأُستاذُ الجَديدُ الأساتِذَةُ الجُدُدُ أُخْتٍ طَويلَةٍ أَخَواتٍ طويلاتٍ المُعَلِّمُ الوسيمُ المُعَلِّمون الوَسيمون

  23. Attention ! Plural for Non-Rational Words All plurals of Non-Rational Nouns (Non-Human) are treated as feminine singular; even those that are masculine when singular. Thus, their adjectives will be in the singular feminine form. دَفتَرٌ جَديدٌ دَفتَران جَديدان دَفاتِرٌ جَديدَةٌ سيّارةٍ قَديمةٍ سيّارَتَيْن قديمَتَيْن سَيّاراتٍ قديمَةٍ
