What teachers want in Professional Development days: (8) • To be motivated, uplifted and feel good about teaching in a Catholic School • To make good use of their time • Have time with their peers and share ideas • Good advance communication • Clear directions and goals • More small group time • Good information to support task at hand • Authentic activities • Theme of Conference: Catholic Educators Make a World of Difference • Intent: To provide an education experience that is fun and uplifting • Event décor: Airport/Around the World Theme

Décor Plans: Airport signs and decorations: Charlotte area PTO, led by Rochelle Stewart will be at CCHS on Thursday to decorate “Rhapsody in Blue” may be playing be playing (theme of United Airlines) Snack Carts available in halls Raffle table with “Around the World” theme Lunch in “Little Italy” HELP needed: Anyone who can stay and help PTO take down decorations will be appreciated

March 28th Diocesan In-Service Charlotte Catholic High School March 28th Curriculum and Technology Conference Agenda "Catholic Educators Make a World of Difference"8:30 a.m. Arrival and Continental Breakfast Welcome, Visit the Health Fair 9:00 AM Prayer Service 9:20 AM Welcome, Honoree and Keynote Panel 10:00 am General Session 1: Presentations 11:00 am General Session 2: Presentations, Raffle Drawing 12:00 noon Lunch (Vegetarian Pasta Bar, provided), Visit the Health Fair 1:00 pm Session 3: Sharing Session (Curriculum/Grade Level Groups - PLC Groups) 2:00 pm Closing Session (Remarks, Teacher Tribute, and Raffle Drawings) 2:30 pm Dismissal

Wireless Access and Tech Support: • CCHS wireless guest access has been increased to handle the number of guests expected • IT will take down blocks on YouTube, Facebook, etc. – and will be available to trouble shoot network issues • Tech Support – The diocese is providing 2 on-site tech support guys to help get presenters online and connect projectors/tv’s etc. • Patty suggests that we have a HELP desk in the main office with a walkie-talkie to the tech support guys – I’ll talk to IT about this • HELP needed: Someone to man a HELP desk

  7. 8:30 a.m. Arrival and Continental Breakfast , Registration • PTOs from the Charlotte area are bringing breakfast items which will be available from 8:30 to 10am • Aladdin (CCHS’s cafeteria provider) is supplying coffee and all the accoutrements • Student musicians from Holy Trinity may be playing during registration time • HELP needed: Setting up, making sure people get what they need (Rochelle Stewart)

  8. Morning Registration Plans: • The Registration Tables will have teacher’s Name Badges. The badges will have the presentation session and meeting room information printed on them. Conference bags (donated by Add Logos), filled with snacks and give-aways (donated by PTO’s) and the program will be given out. • DECISION: Pin-type or Lanyard • Pin cost is $175 for 700. • Lanyard style is going to cost $800- $1100 (cost of the kit is much higher and cost of the lanyard is added as well) • DECISION: How to manage the Registration Table • By school or alphabetical? • HELP needed: Manning the Registration Table

Health Fair • Human Resources organized a Health Fair with United Healthcare • Vendors include: Most are bringing give-aways • Definite: • United Healthcare • US National Whitewater Center • Lifexcel Carolina (nutritionist) • Great Harvest Bread Company • Gold’s Gym • Costco • Earth Fare - Healthy Supermarket • Group Benefit Solutions • MetLife • Tentative: • Run for Your Life • EMS (running) • American Heart Assoc. • Maybe: • Massage Envy • Fresh Start Nutrition • Smoothie King

  10. Health Fair Setup • Steve Carpenter (CCHS) will arrange tables/chairs/wireless for the vendors. Probably in the areas outside/near the cafeteria • DECISION: How long should the vendors stay? • Leave after lunch • Leave after 2:30 • Leave after 3pm? • HELP needed: Vendor check in- help vendors during event • Karen Verney (HR) will be main coordinator • Your Thoughts/Ideas about Health Fair?

  11. 9 am – Prayer Service • Charlotte Catholic’s MJ Dawson is creating the Prayer Service • Msgr. McSweeney will celebrate the service • I don’t know yet if there will be music • MJ indicated the prayer service will be about 10 minutes • Welcome, Honoree and Keynote Panel: • Janice will give a brief welcome • Kevin O’Herron (St. Matthews Principal) will introduce the honoree – MsgrMcSweeney as our nominee for NCEA Pastor of the Year • Msgr. McSweeney may give a brief address • Keynote speech has been changed to a Keynote Panel (explain). Panelists are: (about 5 minutes each) • Theme: Catholic Education - To Me • Sandy McMonagle • Allana Ramkissoon • Jeremy Kuhn

  12. 10-10:45am Session 1 • We have 37 and 36 presentation in each session for a total of 73 presentations and about 98 presenters • Registrations: • We are capping sessions at 25. • I’m closing sessions that reach 25 registrations. 3 are closed so far: • Session 102: Closer Look at Attention, 214 Movement, Meditation and 234 Anxious Thoughts • Also about to be closed is Appy Hour, Brain Research, Digital Learning, Daily 5 and Substance Trends • HELP needed: get your teachers to complete the registrations. Let them know that they will be Assigned a class if they don’t register • HELP needed during Presentations: Need people to help check on presenters to make sure they are connected, have everything they need • DECISION: Lower class registrations • Should we send out the number of attendees and let presenter decide to hold class? Should we set a number?

  13. 11-11:45am Session 2 • Between sessions we hope to encourage visits to the Health Fair • THOUGHTS? How to encourage this but get to session on time? • Session 2 Raffle: “Around the World” • Patti Dickson , Rochelle and I met to plan the raffles. • Rochelle and I purchased 36 – Around the World gift sets from World Market this weekend to be raffled off during Session 2 (must be present to win). • Plan: At the end of Session 2 the Presenter will ask each attendee to pull out the “luggage tag” tucked into their name badge for the raffle (extras will be supplied in case of loss). The Presenter will pull the winning ticket. The winner will go to the “Duty Free Shop” to choose which prize they would like. We had a budget of $15 per prize and were able to do much better because we asked for a discount and got a 25% off coupon! All gifts must be claimed by 1pm or they will go into the general raffle at the end • HELP needed: • 1. Someone to go around at the beginning of Session 2 to all the presentations to make sure they know what is going to happen • 2. 2-3 people to handle the Prize Table (coordinate with Patti Dickson)

  14. Lunch: 11:45 – 1pm Menu: Pasta with Marinara or Alfredo Sauce Bread Sticks Tossed Salad with Assorted Dressings Brownies and Cookies Bottled Water Iced Tea Catered by Bryan Hall - Aladdin – cost is $6.95 per person This is also a good time to encourage visits to the Health Fair.

Sharing Sessions: 1pm – 1:50 pm PreK-5 is meeting at grade level 6-12 meeting by subject area Facilitators: Contacted people in each area, most have replied and agreed, I’ve only had to find a couple of substitutes Format is being left to the discretion of the groups. I’m providing the contact lists. There will be about 45 meetings going on, including a diocesan principal and assistant principal meeting. HELP needed: ? Can you think of anything?

  16. Closing Session: 2-2:30pm • Teacher Tribute Video- being created by the high school students in the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council, representing all schools in the diocese • Honoree: Coach Oddo, Charlotte Catholic High School (still working on this) • Thank you’s etc. • Big Raffle: To be conducted by Msgr. Mo West • Must be present to win, everyone will have a chance to win – even previous prize winners: • iPad Mini • $250 portrait session • Gift Cards • At least 10 other large and small prizes • Unclaimed “Around the World” prizes • Still working on this - if anyone gets a prize donation please contact us and we’ll add it to the list

Other Curriculum news: Catholic Schools Professional Development Sessions with Nic Finelli Blended Tech Learning: Tomorrow: iPads: Essential Apps, Evaluating Apps and Classroom Management this class is full April 3rd: SMART NotebookSomething old, something new, something interesting for you April 10th: Google in Education Ecosystem May 1st: Creative Macs Classes held at the Pastoral center, $60 per class, 0.5 CEUs (3 hrs in class, 2 hrs out of class implementation/presentation)
