What is School of One? School of One is a school model designed to provide students with personalized, effective, and dynamic classroom instruction customized to their particular academic needs, interests, and learning preferences. 9:30 - 10:30: Review FAQ and Ask an Expert 11:20– 12:20, 1:20-2:20 Carousel activity for four modalities What type of program is School of One?
How does School of One work? Students at a school are given diagnostic tests and surveys to determine a student profile of academic needs and preferences called a Playlist Students cluster into groups based on needs (e.g. 20 students work on Skill 24, 5 work on Skill 32, etc.) 9:30 - 10:30: Review FAQ and Ask an Expert 11:20– 12:20, 1:20-2:20 Carousel activity for four modalities A scheduling algorithm determines the modality of instruction for that skill group and the best lesson in that modality (e.g. virtual instruction with Destination Math) Students take a Playlist Update to assess mastery, which changes the clusters for the next day What type of program is School of One?

What were the results? • The average student was exposed to 11 of the 15 skills on their playlist. • Each row represents a student, and each column is a skill. • The colored boxes indicate skills that were included on each student’s playlist. • The average student mastered 6 skills, and showed improvement in 2 additional skills. • Average Pre/post test scores increased from 42% to 70%. • Student demonstrated: • Mastery • Improvement • No change • Regression
