What is Dual Enrollment? Dual enrollment is an opportunity for Georgia high school students to take college-level courses and earn concurrent credit toward a high school diploma and a college degree. Participation in dual enrollment can help ease the transition from high school to college, provide students an early start on their college careers and offers meaningful and challenging academic experiences to qualified students.
Dual Enrollment ProgramsTwo Types: ACCEL –program offered to students who wish to receive high school and college credit for completing graduation and high school diploma requirements while working towards the completion of an Associates or Bachelor Degree. Students may be part-time or full-time. (academic courses only) Move On When Ready – provides an eligible 11th or 12th grade student the opportunity to “move on “ to a postsecondary institution full-time. Students receive high school and college credit for completing graduation and high school diploma requirements; students are prohibited from taking classes at their high school. (academic and elective courses)
Benefits of Dual Enrollment • Students get two for one credit (High school & College) • Financially beneficial to students and parents • Exposed to expanded course offerings • Moves them ahead on their college completion • Higher college preparedness • Connects personal interest to importance of academics
What’s the Difference? • Both programs do not accept summer school, remediation or exemption courses. • Neither program will count against 127 hour HOPE limits students are eligible for after graduation.
Accel Enrollment Process Apply to the college and be accepted Student must bring their acceptance letter to their counselor to move forward with the process. Parent Conference to complete the CCSD Permission Form ACCEL application on-line via GAcollege411.org Student registers at the college for approved courses Copy of their college schedule to their counselor to verify correct courses have been selected. DE Coordinator completes high school ACCEL application to approve funding. College completes the post secondary section and submits to the state.
Dual Enrollment WorkshopWednesday, Oct. 23rd at 6:30 in Auditorium Attention all 10th and 11th grade students, are you interested in taking college classes to earn credits to meet high school requirements? Attend the workshop and you will hear firsthand from Kennesaw State, Southern Poly, Reinhardt, GA Highlands and Chat Tech about their programs and requirements.
