Assumptions • People w/ chronic conditions have similar concerns and problems • People w/ chronic conditions must deal not only with their disease(s) but also with the impact they have on their lives and emotions • Lay people w/ chronic conditions (when given a detailed leaders manual and training) can teach the curriculum as effectively if not more so, than healthcare professionals • The process or way the class is taught is as important (if not more) than the subject matter.
