Services Communities Provide • Communities can include many different things • Family, School, Neighborhood • Family and school teach you values, traditions, behaviors, and cooperation • Government provide public safety, schools, and trash collection • These are called public services • What a community provides depends on its size • Federal government will provide service for entire country • Local governments will provide services for state, county, and city

Responsibilities to the Community • Citizens must try to make the community a better place to live • Good citizens care about the welfare of others • Responsible citizens will also try to care for the environment in the community • Highway cleanup • Picking up trash in a public park • Government agencies will also try to do these things • Department of Natural Resources • Environmental Protection Agency • National Parks Service

  4. Into Action • Volunteers are needed to provide enough services for everyone • There are many volunteer services that anyone can become involved with • American Red Cross • Hospitals • Community Projects • These people are essential to keeping the community functioning
