Services for persons with VI • It is estimated that visual impairment (VI) affects 2.5% of the population. • One government school for the VI (300 • students, gr.1 to 12) • One KG for VI children (NGO) • One training center for women with VI.
German Jordanian University Vision Training Center • 1. Training of professionals: • Professional diploma (2007) • Master’s degree (2010) • Tailored clinical training (2013) • 2. Services for persons with VI (2012)
Professional diploma • Foreign &Jordanian lecturers • Classes in Arabic & English
Professional diploma • 4 month program (Oct to Jan); 62 graduates • Two profiles: • A: Education & Rehabilitation of Persons with VI. • B: Rehabilitation for Persons with Low Vision.
Master’s program • 2 year program with research (thesis) • 12 students, 5 graduates • Students are optometrists, occupational therapists, special ed., biomed. engineer.
Tailored training courses • For professionals with already a basic knowledge in the field. • Based on observation, case studies, and individual work. • On demands
Vision Training Center Vision rehabilitation in 3 steps: Interview medical history needs & expectations. Assessment and provision of visual devices; Advices and training on the use of devices and on skill development (visual, mobility, daily living or communication).
outcomes From September 2012 until today: • 63 persons with VI • 56 devices distributed: • 24 spectacles • 15 hand magnifiers • 12 filters • 3 telescopes • 2 electronic devices.
