Why? • For observations during the experiment. • Organized way to keep data. • A journal of your thoughts during the experiment.
What you need • A ½ inch binder, composition notebook, notebook, or folder. • I recommend one that pages will not have even the slightest chance of falling out.
Set up • Can be observed by the minute, day, week, trial, etc depending on the experiment. • Entries should be NEAT and organized. • One observation per page. • Should be IN ORDER. • Be detailed.
Set Up • Heading: day, date, and time on each page. Organization!
Grading • Each page has a heading including Day, date and time. • Worth 5 points
Grading • Notes of observations for the experiment are recorded in detail. • Worth 10 points.
Grading • Illustrations are included with observations each day. • Worth 5 points.
Grading • Metric measurements are recorded. • Worth 5 points.
Grading • Neatness • Worth 5 points.
Grading • Completeness (shows observations for the experiment from start to finish). • Worth 10 points.
Example: • Day 1 • January 20th 12:30 pm • Subject 1: I notice that there are some holes on my leaves. I think bugs have gotten into the experiment
Day 2 • January 21st 12:30 pm • My dad said to spray the plants with an equal amount of bug spray. I will have to add this control to my list.
Day 3 • January 22nd 1:00 pm • I measured the plant growth of all three plants. • #1 = 1cm • #2 = 1cm • #3 = 1.5cm
