Buying from vegan producers is the best way to make sure of it, as for example, ordering a quick healthy vegetarian dinner. Some ingredients are trickier to spot, so here’s a list of non-vegan ingredients:
Honey If you are sticking to the true definition of vegan foods, then honey must be avoided in any form. It is used as a sweetener in various products but is a non-vegan ingredient.
Milk Byproducts True vegans don’t eat animals and all the animal byproducts such as milk, casein and other products. Casein is a protein produced from animal’s milk and is included in various food items. Check the label for casein and then eat.
Gelatin and Gelatin Products Gelatin is derived from animal collagen and is a colorless odorless gelling agent often found in candies and other processed foods.
Isinglass in beer and wine Isinglass is a clarifying agent derived from fish bladders and is therefore not vegan. Not all beers and wines are filtered using this, but check the labels.
