Now: • Education & Youth Development – Ladders to SUCCESS • Economic Opportunity – Ladders to SUCCESS • Health – In partnership with the Healthy Anne Arundel Coalition Coming: • Environment • Arts & Culture

  6. Ladders to SUCCESSgrants are an investment in local nonprofits that provide opportunities for low wealth or vulnerable county residents to live healthy, vibrant & successful lives. Defining low wealth or vulnerable populations: • single parent households, children in foster care, immigrants or returning veterans; • individuals recently incarcerated, or in recovery; • individuals with physical or intellectual disabilities or with mental illness; • or other vulnerable groups identified by prospective grantees.

To be successful, proposed activities must demonstrate a clear and measurable connection to helping low wealth or vulnerable residents of Anne Arundel County meet the Education & Youth Development program goals of academic advancement. • Individuals served by the proposed program should be expected to experience actual change in their life circumstances that can be tracked, attributed to their participation in the proposed program and reported back to CFAAC on a periodic basis. • Applicant organizations should provide a rationale for their approach based on past program success and/or relevant research. • Approaches that are innovative & proactiveare encouraged.

  8. Investing in Education &Youth Development means: The proposed program will generate opportunities and access that will enable targeted individuals to achieve appropriate academic advancement.

  9. Investing in Youth Development could be: • Promoting early childhood education • Providing alternative education opportunities for students of all abilities • Preparing for employment • Mentoring and creating positive role models for students and families

Additional Tracking • Typical Demographics re: Race/Ethnicity, Gender, Age, Special Populations • As relevant to your program: Household Income, Housing Status, Education Status, Employment Status • Capture a Starting Point to help you measure your results • Track it because it matters – don’t make it matter just because it can be tracked

Who is eligible to apply? • 501 (c)(3) Nonprofit organizations that provide opportunities for low wealth or vulnerable county residents to achieve academic advancement • Instrumentalities of Government and certain other organizations providing a service for low wealth or vulnerable populations may also be eligible • Your organization must be in good standing with: • Internal Revenue Service • MD Secretary of State’s Charitable Organization Division • MD Department of Assessment & Taxation

  15. What’s Different this year? • We are only accepting applications in the Education & Youth Development Impact Area during this application cycle. Applications for our Economic Development Impact Area will be accepted in the Fall of 2014. • NEW THIS CYCLE: We are interested in programs to help youth connect with arts and culture in a way that will improve their interest in school and/or their academic achievement, as well as programs that teach important skills like creative thinking, collaboration and problem-solving through arts.

  16. All proposals will be reviewed and evaluated for funding based on criteria established by CFAAC’sGrants Committee and ratified by CFAAC’sBoard of Trustees. • Approximately $100,000 total in grants will be awarded during the grant cycle. • Average grant awards will range from $10,000 to $25,000.

  17. When will grants be awarded? • Grants Committee to review proposals March – May, 2014 • Board of Trustees to review committee recommendations in June 2014 • Awards Announced in mid-June 2014!
